Welcome to the wonderful world of chickens. Why aren't there a pair of chickens in every backyard? I ponder this kind of thing every day.... I met chickens when I was a little boy living in South Africa. I must have been about 5 years old and our neighbor had some on Pringle road in Cape Town. I have a vague memory of a chicken running around with it's head cut off. So about 4 decades later, I now have a nice little flock of 5 girls in my back yard. They are such fun, friendly and helpful creatures.
My first Permaculture class in 2001 was my re-introduction to chickens. I was truly smitten when I found out all the fantastic things they bring to a space. They eat my scraps and make them into wonderful fresh eggs. They eat all the bugs and weeds in my backyard. They keep me company on those days I need a little feathered friend. What could be better?
